We had a fun, labor-less weekend. As part of the fun weekend we went to the Bee's final home game on Monday. They were playing Sacramento who are rated number one and it seemed right from the first that the Bees were doomed. A baseball game is fun to attend no matter what--and we were enjoying ourselves in our shady seats, surrounded by families with little kids because it was three dollar family day. The Bees were about eight points behind when the eighth inning was beginning and we discussed leaving the game at that point.
We decided to stay another twenty minutes. Just then crack! the batter hit a high fly foul ball--straight at us. Now since Jimbob was just a tadpole he has had the dream of catching a ball at a ball game such as this one; hence he always takes his mitt with him to games. He stood up, took one step to his right on to the steps and SLAP! That ball hit his mitt like it was thrown to him on purpose! The crowd around us clapped and cheered, and the little boy next to him asked if he could "touch that ball". Jimbob offered to give the ball to the little kid but his dad shooed him away with a smile, telling him to keep it.
Jimbob is still grinning. Nothing like a kid's dream finally coming true when you are fifty five years old.
