Shannon and her missionary

Shannon has been dating Ryan since they both turned 16 and met at Taylorsville High. They sometimes dated others, they sometimes squabbled, but always they seemed to gravitate back to each other, and as time went on they were sort of "hooked at the hip" so to say. So, a few weeks ago when Ryan went to the MTC to begin his mission, we had one sad Shannon on our hands. We know how it feels--I waited patiently for Jimbob to serve a mission to England before we got married, and Cass waited for Jared as well. Waiting for missionaries seems to be a "gene" that runs in our family.

A funny thing happened on Monday. Ryan flew to Spokane to begin his mission and as you may or may not know, my son David and his wife Jane and their little girls, Piper and Isabelle live in Spokane. They just moved into a new home a couple of months ago. David does not know Ryan, but on Monday night the doorbell rang and there were 4 missionaries on the doorstop. One of them, a tall dark guy, said "Hi, Izzy, how are you?" to Isabelle; and David did a double take--wondering who the heck this guy was and how on earth did he know his daughter??

Small world! Ryan was out tracting on the first evening of his mission in Spokane and happened upon David and his family! I love it when fun things like that happen. Ryan will be a great missionary!

That is so funny. My mom told me about that just yesterday. I bet that was nice for him to see a familiar face in a place full of strangers.

That's a nice story. By the way, they tract by 4's in Washington?

What an amazing story! I just love it!! Stories like that make the world seem so small, and helps me know that God knows each one of us individually. Happy Birthday to Brynlee! What darling grandchildren you have!
